Understanding different dimensions of computing is part of the necessary skill set for an educated person in the 21st century. Whether you want to be a scientist, develop the latest killer application, or just know what it really means when someone says 'the computer made a mistake', studying computing will provide you with valuable knowledge."
At NEW LIFE COLLEGE:
After completing foundational coursework, students at NEW LIFE COLLEGE select advanced courses from a variety of areas including data mining, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, human computer interaction, robotics, databases, and web programming & cybersecurity. Because we value the interdisciplinary nature of computer science, our students are also invited to apply one allied course from another department toward their computer science major. Examples of such courses include bioinformatics (biology), electronics (physics), operations research (mathematics), history of science (history), geographic information systems (geosciences), electronic journalism (communication), digital art (art & art history), women & the internet (women's gender & sexuality studies) and logic (philosophy). In addition, each student completes a senior capstone project that can link computer science to another area of interest. These courses and projects help students understand how computer science fits in to a wide range of domains in the world around us.

At NEW LIFE COLLEGE:
Faculty and students at NEW LIFE COLLEGE regularly explore challenging problems in a variety of areas including the development of software to improve education, using 3D graphics to visualize historical artifacts, developing computer models to study evolution, understanding natural language, analyzing medical images, using computers to produce art, and developing algorithms to support advanced network technologies. Many of our department's projects are inherently interdisciplinary and link to disciplines including psychology, biology, mathematics, physics, education, art and music.

At NEW LIFE COLLEGE:
Computer Science projects at NEW LIFE COLLEGE have considered problems with the potential to impact a wide range of people. For example, projects have explored the development of technology to help patients predict the onset of migraine headaches, the exploration of assistive technology for students with low-vision, the development of computing systems to assist with medical imaging and diagnosis and the study of gender equity in computer science. Recently a team of students even worked on an independent project to remind HIV patients to take medications according to a strict schedule. The team was awarded first-runner up in the finals of the 2009 United States Microsoft Imagine Cup (you can read more about their successes here).
